Research Area
Prof. Yan Ping, the deputy director of Lanzhou Institute of Husbandry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, CAAS. Generally interested in the yak resource and breeding, her current research focuses primarily on evaluation and application of new developments and new technologies in sustainable yak breeding and reproduction, and marker-assisted selection (MAS) to increase disease resistance, productivity and product quality in economically important animals by adding information of DNA markers to phenotypes and genealogies for selection decisions.

She was successfully bred a new ‘strain’ of Datong yak, which filled the blank in the history of the world’s domesticated animal breeding. The research finding was achieved based on China’s special genetic resources with original technology, therefore has independent intellectual property right.

Projects focus on yak breeding and sustainable development of yak husbandry, including Recommend International Advanced Agricultural Science and Technology Plan (2013-Z11) and the‘Twelfth Five-Year Plan’ of the National Science and Technology Support Project (2012BAD13B00). As well as the major Project of Science and Technology in Gansu Province, The National High Technology Research and Development Program of China(863 Program).

She was also lead to the Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Program (ASTIP) for Yak resource and breeding of CAAS. The Innovation team has been engaged in the research on breeding and reproduction of herbivore for forty years, witnessing significant achievement in selective breeding and amelioration of yak.
